There's no other word for this piece but iconic. Right up there with jandals and Red Bands, the Swanndri bush shirt is now an absolute icon of NZ clothing. Brighter than its modern "fashionable" burgundy red cousin, this classic bright red and black check has "soon-to-be-vintage" written all over it - and it'll help you stay warm, dry, and not get shot in the bush.
Upcycled with high-viz green FORCE MAJEURE embroidery to contrast with the garment's bright red thread, this shirt has the original large-scale FM patch sewn on the back with thousands of stitches and the lightning-heart insignia on the pocket flap on the left chest.
What you need to know:
Front = 67cm, Back = 81cm, Shoulders = 48cm, Chest = 62cm, Sleeves = 63cm from shoulder to cuff
Made in the classic bush shirt style:
- zip collar (25cm deep)
- patch pockets on chest with black buttons
- shirt-style shaping at the sides, and a longer tail than the front (80cm)
- black buttons at cuffs
- the exterior Swanndri label is a previous, less stylised design
The garment is in excellent condition overall. There is two small holes in the front which have been carefully visibly mended in black thread.
Sourced from The Salvation Army in Mt Eden and stitched with care by Positive Image in Newton, Auckland.
ABOUT THE SINGULAR RANGE:
I really love the embroidered FM design. I decided to put it on the back of an old denim jacket of mine after I saw a friend doing this in her business. She shared the name of her embroiderer with me and I loved the result so much I decided to put it on more second hand stuff. I'm a fan of shopping second hand and I love combining old and new, so the upcycled FM Singular line was born, thanks to my friend's creativity and generosity.
