Reinvention: you too?

I spoke at a careers night at Baradene College on a freezing night in August and the experience made me snap awake at 1am, thinking hard.

Everyone else on my panel had done a degree that was vocational.
They'd studied for the job they have.

I hadn't. I'd done a BA. Honours. Got a good one. Followed my nose through teaching into acting and then into self employment as a photographer.
Now, tip-toeing quietly, softly back into teaching.

Back into Art.

Reinventing myself.

I've done this many times.
Sometimes out of boredom.
Sometimes (often) out of necessity.
But always being led by intuition rather than reason.

Along the way, by fortune not design, I had these pictures taken by professional photographers. They're wonderful markers of these reinventions.

My sister Kate Billing wrote a post about reinvention recently. It has some questions for reflection. I recommend taking a look.

After lying in the dark that winter night, thinking, I decided to get up and write down what was circling in my mind. It was all about what I'm currently doing, who I really want to be, and what it might take to get there.

A waking dream, so precious it makes my heart flutter.

If you're also in this process of reinvention, of "becoming", of blooming, of leaving a too-small skin behind you as you grow...

...have your picture by someone who knows what that feels like.

I'll hold the space you need to evolve. Even if you're not sure who that is yet.
And I'll make some special pictures for you.

Good ones, like these.
