Vulnerability & Success - a discussion with Frame Gallery, AKL
In a thoughtful and candid Q&A, Amanda Billing reflects on her evolving creative journey. Moving fluidly between acting, painting, and photography, she touches on how themes of improvisation, vulnerability, and learning have remained central throughout. She discusses the power of midlife creativity, the role of community, and what success means when you’re charting your own path. As part of the Emerging Women in Art event, her insights offer an honest look into what it takes to keep showing up, sharing your work, and staying open.

Play Within Constraints - a conversation with Design Assembly
I’m definitely a “slashie”, partly out of interest and partly out of necessity. In order to stay flexible enough to audition and then work as an actor, it suits me best to be self-employed. ... Presence is essential to everything I do. It’s a sense of connection and an open awareness. When I’m being a photographer, it’s the connection between me and my subject as well as awareness of my situation and what the light is doing. When I’m making art it’s connection with my materials and with the evolving composition in front of me. I don’t execute fully formed ideas, my work is made through process and experimentation.

PERSONAL PR
I'm in season 2 of Under The Vines on TVNZ and was asked to do participate in Face Time in early February. It took me a week to write my answers because this was a kind of publicity I hadn't done in a long time. The questions matter and I wanted to choose my words carefully but also have some fun. I found the process really enjoyable and, mercifully, they published my words without changing anything major. -

ARTISTIC REPRESENTATION? TICK.
When Artfull Director Jess Agoston invited me for coffee and asked if I wanted to be, in her words, an "Artist with a Capital A" by joining the Artfull team, I said Hell yes! Then I was hit with a wave of impostor-syndrome-like doubts that always comes with taking a bigger step than I'm used to into exciting but slightly unfamiliar territory where, crucially, other people might be watching.I have a habit of doing this to myself. -
ON "MAKING ART THE MAIN THING"
This is BIG - I have gallery representation. Still can't quite believe it! I am very proud to have been invited to join the diverse stable of visual artists brought together under the banner of artfull.co.nz.
