The bucket hat has been quietly making its way back from the Nineties and is going to be all over the place this summer.
This is my Force Majeure take on old mate kangol.
ABOUT THE HAT
- breathable twill
- 100% polyester (chuck it in your beach bag, chuck it in the wash)
- taupe/tan/camel: whatever you want to call it, this colour goes with everything and, because it's close to white but it's not white, won't look grubby in a hurry and it won't boil your head
TWO ADULT SIZES
- M/L (approx 60cm circumference)
- L/XL (approx 62cm circumference)
ABOUT THE DESIGN
I came up with Force Majeure design as part of a 100 Day print-making project. I like it so much that I've taken the original circular design, taken it apart and reproduced it in different ways. This hat features an element which is fast becoming my own personal logo.
Force Majeure is a legal term, amounting to a huge, life-changing occurrence that comes out of nowhere and changes everything. It's French, ad translates roughly as "Act of God". Grammatically, it's feminine.
Without spelling it all out, I'll just say that in the beginning I carved this linocut because I was thinking about how qualities which have been labelled feminine (the "yinness" of opening up, softening) could be the way forward for us all. This design is about balance though, about how creativity and change aren't always pretty or convenient. It's about what we humans have in common underneath all of our special identities, and it's about what "creator" means.
