CYANE (2024)
A continuation of my work with the figure in colour, based on a Victorian art model photograph from around 1860. One of a few different explorations in this Encore collection of the value in repetition and departure.
I have drawn her many times in different ways and allowed my painting explorations to lead her in different directions. I love the play of complementary reds and greens, as well as the pops of blue and orange. She is elegant yet relaxed - something I strive to me so it's nice to paint this feeling, even if I don't embody it myself all the time... .
Do any of us these days? Allow her to be your guide.
Named after a figure from Greek mythology, Cyane is the fluid, sensual spirit of a water sprite, embodied in the 21st century.
