EVADNE (2024)
A continuation of my work with the figure in colour, based on a Victorian art model photograph from around 1860. One of a few explorations in this collection of the value in repetition and departure.
I have drawn this woman many times in different ways and allowed my painting explorations to lead them in different directions. Each figure is completed in her own time. Evadne was the last. She is a study in gesture and bold colour. She invited quick brush work and a no-fear approach. She embodies the struggle in an artist's practice and the triumph in resolution. I love her spontaneity and that she very firmly said STOP when she was done.
Named after a figure from Greek mythology, Evadne is the fluid, sensual spirit of a water sprite, embodied in the 21st century.
