NOMIA (2024)
A continuation of my work with the figure in colour, begun in preparation for my Embodiment solo show in 2024. She is one of a few different explorations in this Encore collection of the value in repetition and departure, inspired by a quickly-drawn sketch of an art model by Klimt.
Nomia, a water sprite in Greek mythology, blinded her lover when she found he'd been unfaithful. I named her after I painted her, partly because the richness in the crimson-based violets and the mist of yellows swirling around her create an atmosphere of intensity. The Greeks loved a bit of sex and violence but she's the 21st century iteration: holding her rage close.
