CYANE (2024)
A continuation of my work with the figure in colour, based on a Victorian art model photograph from around 1860. One of a few different explorations in this Encore collection of the value in repetition and departure.
I have drawn this woman many times in different ways and allowed my painting explorations to lead them in different directions. Each figure is completed in her own time. Cleone was the first to say "Enough". She became the benchmark against which her sisters were measured, finding their own completion in time.
This aspect of resolution in the fullness of time is something that I think applies to all of us: self awareness and generosity can grow with age if we are mindful and careful with ourselves. We can cease our endless work on ourselves and just be enough, too.
Named after a figure from Greek mythology, Cleone is the fluid, sensual spirit of a water sprite, embodied in the 21st century.
